2007 GHR

Shiraz

In the past our philosophy had always been only to produce single vineyard wines from the our beloved St Jakobi vineyard, but since shifting here to Gods Hill Rd. there have been a few small changes.

We’ve been blessed by being able to call our little "patch of dirt" here on God’s Hill Road our home. God’s Hill Road is almost 2km long, and runs along a small hill range on the western side of the Lyndoch Valley. Along this short stretch of dirt road are some wonderful Shiraz vineyards growing on a great collection of soil types. Out of our living room window we have Peter Gilsmore’s Max’s Vineyard growing on some sandy terrain with scatterings of ironstone and quartz; Robert and Nanette Staker’s vineyard of Shiraz on Benno Semmler’s old property with red-brown earth over clay; and Wally Krieg’s vineyard, much of what was planted back in the 1920 and 1930’s, also growing on some red dirt over clay and Biscay soils.

The 2007 GHR Neighbours Shiraz is a ripe full flavoured wine. Big, soft and round with characteristics of plum and ripe blue berries. After maturing in both French and American hogsheads for 20 months the wine from all 3 vineyards was blended and bottled after only racking it clean. The French and American oak characters compliment the sweet fruit mid palate concentration and the ripe fruit characters & soft drying tannin highlight the finish.

We trust you'll enjoy it!

Scores

“Packed with ripe black plum, berry and cherry fruit, this is a big GHR, but it holds its balance well. Tannins are fine and structured and the purity of its fruit coasts over its supportive dark chocolate oak backbone. It has great length and signature Dutschke freshness that holds its poise. It's a triumphant GHR from a tough drought vintage - 92pts

- Tyson Stelzer

“Deep, dense colour; a robust, full-bodied wine with multiple layers of black fruits, licorice and tannins; built to last and isn't alcoholic - 94pts

- James Halliday Wine Companion 2010
